Max Verstappen will remain with Red Bull Racing until the end of the 2030 Formula 1 season, ending speculation over whether the four-time world champion could leave the team.
Red Bull announced the extension on Thursday, August 20, describing the agreement as a commitment to continue building its future around Verstappen.
The new deal gives Verstappen another four years with the team beyond his current contract and keeps one of Formula 1's most successful drivers tied to Red Bull for the long term.
Verstappen commits to Red Bull
Verstappen joined Red Bull's senior Formula 1 team in 2016 after coming through its junior programme.
He immediately made an impact, winning the Spanish Grand Prix on his debut with the team and becoming the youngest driver at the time to win a Formula 1 race.
A decade later, the partnership has produced four Drivers' World Championships, two Constructors' Championships and 71 Grand Prix victories, according to Red Bull.
The Dutch driver said the decision reflects his confidence in the people working around him.
“We have the best people and I'm excited to keep working together with everyone to get back to the top again,” Verstappen said.
Why the 2030 deal matters
The extension comes as Red Bull enters an important new period.
Formula 1's 2026 regulations have introduced major changes to the cars and power units, while Red Bull is also working with Ford on its new power-unit project.
Keeping Verstappen gives the team a proven championship-winning driver around whom it can develop its next generation of cars.
It also removes one of the biggest uncertainties from the F1 driver market.
For several seasons, Verstappen's future has been the subject of speculation, with rival teams regularly linked with a possible move. His new commitment to Red Bull now provides considerably more certainty over where one of the sport's biggest stars will be racing.
A partnership that began in 2016
Verstappen's relationship with Red Bull has been central to the team's success over the past decade.
His first world championship came in 2021, followed by titles in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
The 2023 season was particularly dominant, with Verstappen winning 19 of the 22 races.
The relationship has also survived periods when Red Bull has faced greater competition, with Verstappen remaining the team's leading figure.
Now, both sides are looking towards the next chapter.
Red Bull wants more success
The announcement is not simply about preserving the team's past achievements.
Red Bull said there are still more races to win, milestones to reach and history to make, signalling that the team's ambitions remain firmly focused on championship success.
For Verstappen, the extension means he could spend 15 seasons as a Red Bull driver, from his 2016 arrival through the end of 2030.
It also means Formula 1 fans can expect the Verstappen-Red Bull partnership to remain one of the defining stories of the sport for years to come.
With the 2026 season already underway, attention will now turn back to the championship and whether Red Bull can give its long-term driver the machinery needed to add another world title to his record.
