Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2026: Samsung Bets on Agentic AI, Privacy Displays and Creator-Level Cameras With Galaxy S26 Series


Samsung has unveiled its most ambitious smartphone vision yet at Galaxy Unpacked 2026, introducing the Galaxy S26 series alongside a sweeping shift in how phones are designed, used and understood, moving, as Android executive Sameer Samat described during the event, “from an operating system to an intelligence system.”

The launch positioned the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra not simply as upgraded smartphones but as AI-driven digital agents capable of acting on behalf of users, managing tasks in the background and reducing the number of steps required to get everyday things done.

Powered by Samsung’s third generation of Galaxy AI, the devices aim to make technology less visible while becoming more proactive, adaptive and context-aware.

AI That Acts, Not Just Responds

Central to the announcement was Samsung’s push toward agentic AI, artificial intelligence that understands intent and executes actions rather than waiting for commands.


The Galaxy S26 integrates multiple AI agents, including Gemini, Bixby and Perplexity, allowing tasks to move across apps seamlessly.


Users can circle an object on screen using Circle to Search, then continue the action through Gemini, which can complete multi-step tasks such as booking services, gathering information or organising plans.

Through an upgraded conversational version of Bixby, users can adjust settings, summarise conversations or manage schedules using natural language instead of precise commands.

Samsung demonstrated how the system recognises context automatically: messages referencing meetings trigger calendar checks, while photo requests prompt suggested gallery selections without manual searching.


The company described this as technology working quietly in the background, shifting focus away from operating software toward intelligent outcomes.


Smart Interaction Extends Beyond the Phone


The experience extends to Samsung’s new Galaxy Buds4 lineup, which acts as an AI companion rather than just audio accessories.


When paired with the phone, users can activate AI agents through voice commands, control calls using head gestures and continue interactions hands-free, allowing conversations with the device even when the phone is not physically in use.


Samsung says this represents a broader ecosystem strategy where AI follows the user across devices instead of remaining confined to screens.


Privacy Built Into the Display Itself


One of the most talked-about announcements was the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s built-in Privacy Display, the first of its kind on a smartphone.

Rather than relying on external screen protectors, the display controls how pixels emit light, narrowing viewing angles so content remains visible to the user but appears dark from the sides. Samsung calls the result a “black matrix” effect.


The feature can be customised per application, automatically activating for banking apps, passwords or messaging platforms.

Users may choose partial privacy for notifications or full-screen protection depending on context.

Samsung says the innovation reflects growing concerns about digital privacy in public spaces such as offices, cafes and public transport.


Additional protections include AI-powered call screening, real-time privacy alerts when apps request sensitive permissions and post-quantum cryptography integrated into device security systems through Samsung Knox.


From Titanium to Refined Design


In a notable design decision, Samsung moved away from titanium materials introduced in previous generations, opting instead for a redesigned structure focused on weight reduction, thermal efficiency and durability.

The result, Samsung says, is the slimmest Ultra device yet while improving heat dissipation a necessary change as AI processing demands significantly more sustained performance.


Performance Built for AI and Gaming


At the heart of the Galaxy S26 Ultra is a customised Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy chipset, delivering gains across processing power:

• Up to 19% faster CPU performance• 39% improved AI processing via the NPU• 24% stronger GPU graphics output


A redesigned vapour chamber cooling system spreads heat across a larger surface area, maintaining stability during gaming, multitasking and high-resolution video recording.


Samsung also introduced ProScaler image enhancement and an upgraded Digital Natural Image engine for sharper visuals and more accurate colours.


The device supports wireless charging alongside Super Fast Charging 3.0, reaching up to 75 percent battery in approximately 30 minutes.


Camera System Designed for Creators


Samsung positioned the Galaxy S26 camera as an end-to-end creative system rather than just a capture tool.

Wider apertures improve low-light photography, while enhanced Nightography video delivers clearer footage in dim environments.


Upgraded Super Steady stabilisation introduces horizontal lock technology for smoother framing during movement-heavy recording.

The phone also introduces APV, along side HDR, a professional-grade video codec designed for visually lossless editing workflows.

In one of the event’s standout demonstrations, Samsung used a Galaxy S26 device itself to film portions of the presentation, showcasing a new capability allowing 8K video recording directly to external storage via USB-C, eliminating internal storage limitations for creators.


AI editing tools now allow users to describe changes conversationally, from altering lighting conditions to removing objects or even adjusting outfits within photos.


Creative Studio further expands this workflow by enabling users to generate visuals, stickers and designs from sketches or prompts without switching apps.


Social Media-Ready AI Photography


Samsung also highlighted an upgraded AI image signal processor that enhances skin tones, improves detail in mixed lighting and automatically prepares photos for social media sharing.

Document Scan automatically removes distortions such as folds or fingers from scanned images and compiles multiple captures into a single organised PDF.


Smarter Everyday Assistance


Features like Now Brief and Now Nudge deliver proactive reminders and suggestions based on personal context, surfacing travel updates, reservations or relevant information throughout the day.

Circle to Search has also evolved to recognise multiple objects simultaneously within an image, allowing deeper exploration without leaving the screen.

Samsung says these updates reduce friction between intent and action, a recurring theme throughout the event.

A Phone Designed to Work Quietly


According to TM Roh, Samsung’s head of device experience, the company’s goal is to make AI dependable without requiring technical expertise.

Rather than overwhelming users with features, the Galaxy S26 series aims to let intelligence fade into the background, allowing the device to anticipate needs while maintaining strong privacy protections.

With seven years of security updates and expanded Knox protection across connected devices, Samsung is positioning the Galaxy S26 as a long-term AI companion rather than a yearly upgrade.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy S26 series begin February 25, with devices launching in shared colour options including Cobalt Violet, White, Black and Sky Blue, alongside exclusive online finishes.
