Samsung has introduced a new specialised photography feature called Ocean Mode within its Expert RAW on the camera application, expanding the company’s push toward professional-grade smartphone photography.
Announced during Galaxy Unpacked 2026 on Wednesday 25, the new mode is designed specifically for underwater and ocean-based photography, allowing users to capture clearer images in challenging aquatic environments where lighting, colour distortion and motion often affect image quality.
The feature will debut on the latest Galaxy flagship devices, including the Galaxy S26 series, and is integrated directly into the Expert RAW app, Samsung’s advanced camera platform aimed at photographers who want greater manual control over exposure, focus and colour processing.
Ocean Mode works by adjusting white balance, contrast and colour calibration to compensate for how water absorbs light, particularly red and warm tones that quickly disappear underwater. Samsung says the system restores more natural-looking blues, skin tones and marine colours while reducing haze caused by particles in water.
The mode also enhances stabilisation and shutter optimisation to account for movement from waves or currents, helping users capture sharper photos even in dynamic environments.
Samsung noted that the feature targets travellers, divers and content creators increasingly using smartphones instead of dedicated underwater cameras.
The addition reflects a broader trend among smartphone makers to introduce environment-specific shooting modes, moving beyond traditional portrait or night photography toward specialised scenarios.
Ocean Mode will be available through an update to the Expert RAW application alongside the launch of the Galaxy S26 lineup.
