Samsung is heading back into the spotlight next week with a new Galaxy launch, less than two months after its major summer Unpacked event.
The company has confirmed that it will hold Galaxy Event August 2026 on Thursday, August 27, where it plans to introduce a new member of the Galaxy S26 family. Samsung has not yet revealed the device's name, but its announcement points to a phone designed to bring key Galaxy S26 experiences, including camera and AI features, to a wider audience.
The announcement is particularly interesting because Samsung's flagship Galaxy S26 lineup has already been unveiled. This latest event is therefore expected to focus on a different part of the company's smartphone strategy.
Galaxy S26 FE is the leading candidate
Samsung has deliberately avoided naming the upcoming device in its official invitation.
However, the strongest expectation is that the company will unveil the Galaxy S26 FE, the next Fan Edition model.
The FE series has traditionally been positioned between Samsung's flagship phones and its more affordable Galaxy A models, offering selected flagship features at a lower price.
Recent reports and leaks have pointed to a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, Exynos 2500 processor, up to 256GB of storage and a 4,900mAh battery. A triple-camera system with a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide and 8MP telephoto sensor has also been reported. These specifications remain unconfirmed by Samsung and should therefore be treated as leaks until the company announces the phone.
The expected focus on camera and AI is, however, directly supported by Samsung's own announcement.
Samsung says the new Galaxy will bring the core Galaxy S26 experience “from camera to AI”, alongside the latest version of One UI, to consumers looking for the features that matter most to them.
Why the FE matters
The launch could be significant because Samsung is increasingly trying to make its AI features a bigger part of the Galaxy experience rather than limiting them to its most expensive devices.
An FE model gives the company an opportunity to put some of those features into a phone aimed at consumers who may not want to pay flagship prices.
That could make the upcoming device particularly relevant in markets where buyers are increasingly looking for a balance between camera quality, performance, battery life and price.
For Samsung, the challenge will be maintaining enough of the premium Galaxy experience while keeping the FE meaningfully cheaper than the standard S26 models.
When can you watch the event?
Samsung will livestream the event globally.
The company's India announcement says the event will begin at 5:30 p.m. IST on August 27, which is 3 p.m. in Kenya. The livestream will be available through Samsung.com and Samsung India's YouTube channel.
That means Kenyan Galaxy users will not have to wait for a local launch event to see what Samsung announces.
What remains less certain is when the new device will actually go on sale in Kenya. Samsung has not yet announced Kenyan pricing or local availability for the upcoming phone.
More than just another Galaxy launch
The timing makes this an unusual Samsung announcement.
The company has already had a busy year, with the Galaxy S26 family forming its flagship smartphone lineup and its foldable devices taking centre stage during the summer launch period.
The August event instead appears designed to extend the S26 family downward, potentially giving Samsung another phone capable of competing for buyers who want premium features without moving into the highest price category.
For now, Samsung is keeping the biggest detail under wraps: the name of the phone itself.
If the Galaxy S26 FE does make its debut, however, August 27 could mark Samsung's next major attempt to bring its flagship camera, AI and software experience to a broader group of smartphone buyers.
