Nintendo fans have reason to celebrate: the upcoming Switch 2 will finally support cloud backup for screenshots and video clips, a long-requested feature that brings the handheld-console hybrid closer to modern standards of media storage and convenience.
Sources close to Nintendo’s development team confirmed that the Switch 2 will allow users to automatically upload their in-game captures to the cloud, likely via Nintendo’s online subscription service, ensuring their moments are safe even if the device is lost or damaged.
This marks a major improvement over the original Switch, which only allowed users to save screenshots locally or manually transfer them via microSD or QR code.
The lack of cloud integration had long frustrated users who regularly shared gaming highlights or relied on the system’s media tools.
While Nintendo has yet to officially confirm all the new console’s features, the cloud-backup support suggests a broader shift toward modernised software experiences in the Switch 2, expected to launch in late 2025.
More details, including how much storage will be offered and how it integrates with Nintendo Switch Online, are expected in the company's next showcase.
