Samsung is reportedly gearing up to launch its next-generation foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, this July—and leaks suggest this could be the company’s biggest flip phone upgrade in years. With a larger cover screen, upgraded internals, and smarter AI features, the Z Flip 7 looks set to compete directly with rivals like the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra.
Bigger, Smarter Cover Display
According to fresh leaks cited by Android Authority, the Z Flip 7 will feature a larger 4-inch cover display, up from 3.66 inches on the Z Flip 6. Render icons spotted in Samsung’s latest One UI 8 software teardown confirm the bump in screen size. This puts Samsung in closer competition with Motorola’s Razr line, which has long boasted larger, more functional external displays.
If Samsung allows more third-party apps and widgets on this upgraded screen, it could address a common complaint among Flip users: limited utility when the phone is folded shut.
Refined Design, Fewer Bezels
Design-wise, the Flip 7 is expected to get thinner bezels, a wider and taller build, and a new hinge mechanism that reduces the appearance of the infamous foldable crease. While it will retain the 6.9 mm thickness when unfolded—unlike the Z Fold 7, which is reportedly aiming to be the thinnest foldable yet—Samsung is making better use of internal space.
Battery Boost and the Power of AI
Perhaps one of the most welcome changes is a battery upgrade, closing the gap with the much larger Z Fold 7. The Flip 7 will reportedly feature only a 100mAh difference compared to its foldable sibling, despite being significantly smaller.
The device is also expected to come packed with more AI tools as part of Samsung’s continued push to integrate Galaxy AI across its mobile ecosystem. These could include AI-assisted photo editing, smart scheduling, and voice-based assistance.
The Chipset Shake-Up: Snapdragon or Exynos?
One surprising twist is Samsung’s rumored return to dual chip strategies. Earlier leaks pointed to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (or 8 Gen 3 Elite) powering the Z Flip 7 globally, but new reports suggest that some regions may receive the in-house Exynos 2500 chip instead. This mirrors the company’s past practice with Galaxy S models and is likely a cost-saving move amid limited Snapdragon supply.
While the Exynos 2500 is expected to deliver decent performance, it may lag slightly behind Qualcomm’s latest flagship chip—especially in gaming and AI-intensive tasks.
Cameras: Familiar Territory
Samsung appears to be playing it safe with camera hardware on the Flip 7. While the wide-angle lens was upgraded last year, the 12MP ultra-wide camera remains unchanged. That might disappoint users hoping for more dramatic photography improvements, particularly as competitors like the Razr 60 Ultra push harder in this area.
Expected Launch Timeline
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is rumored to debut in July 2025, likely alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7. With the foldables market heating up and AI becoming a major selling point, all eyes will be on Samsung to see how it balances innovation, performance, and price.
